Consecrated in Truth

We live in very strange times. Never before in the history of the human race has truth, science and facts been under greater assault. More than ever, we need the gift of discernment to decide what is real and what is fake, what is true and what are lies. Perhaps one of the most “true” memes on social media is the faux quote: “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet”—Abraham Lincoln.

Back in the bad, old days of dictatorship in South Korea, when newspapers were heavily controlled and censored by the government, people read everything with healthy skepticism. With each officially sanctioned article, they wondered, “Okay. What really happed?” For too long in the United States, people automatically assumed what they heard or read was true, without bothering to question. Now on the internet, where bogus stories vie for space with authentic news, we need to be extra vigilant.

Jesus consecrates us with the truth. If that is the case, then lies and liars (those who create lies and those who spread them) are desecrating us. If truth consecrates us, lies defile us. When we read something surprising or outrageous on social media, DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHARE. First check out if the statement is true. Find several reliable news outlets to verify. Ask people. Do your homework. The “Father of Lies”seeks to divide and deceive us. Let us cling more tightly to the truth revealed by Jesus, that consecrates us and sets us free.
